Ben Jones

Ben Jones is a builder and problem solver. As Co-Founder and CEO of Powered By Data, he doesn’t just advise organizations on data, BI, and AI — he gets in the trenches with them and does the work. Powered By Data is the parent company behind Data Literacy (training and assessments) and Data Freelancers (a vetted marketplace of data and AI experts), and Ben built all three from the ground up.

Along the way, the hands-on work has produced nine books on data and AI, including AI Literacy Fundamentals (Data Literacy Press, 2024), Avoiding Data Pitfalls (Wiley, 2019), Data Literacy Fundamentals (DLP, 2020) and Leading in the Age of Data (DLP, 2023). These books aren’t theoretical — they’re grounded in what Ben has learned building solutions alongside hundreds of organizations worldwide.

Ben also teaches Data Visualization and Storytelling at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, bringing the same practitioner-first approach to the classroom — rooted in real projects and real decisions, not just theory.

To balance out the digital side of life, Ben loves hiking and backpacking on the beautiful trails of the Pacific Northwest. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA (2000) and an MBA from California Lutheran University (2011).
